Rain and a little lightning greeted 32 anglers as they gathered at the Stockton City ramp to kick off the third of four days in the Missouri TBF Tournament Series which qualifies four anglers for the 2010 State Team.  Many members were well within reach of the top four positions and the fish bought in today sure stirred the points race up.

Taking first place Saturday was Missouri TBF President and Team Concept member Don Heiser with a five fish limit tipping the scales at 16.40 lbs.  He focused his efforts in the Big Sac around pole timber using a 10” junebug power worm in 8 to 10 ft of water.   Don mentioned that the bites were soft and you had to pay attention to your line.  He covered a few different spots to boat his five fish by 10 AM.    Don took home $320 for first and also had the day’s big bass of 4.70 lbs earning him another $160.  His sponsors are Sedalia Outdoor Sports and Ranger.  Congratulations Don.

Big Sticks President Greg Cooper wrapped up second place with five fish weighing 14.60 lbs anchored by a 3.50 pounder.   Greg fished the Big Sac with 10” power worms around pole timber while using 15lb Berkley 100% fluorocarbon to help detect his bites.  Greg reported only a few shorts and was fortunate that the bites he did get were the quality he needed.  Greg took home $160 for second.  His sponsors are Ardent Reels, Larue Insurance, Curt Walker Jigs, Triton, Mercury and Motor Guide.

Pomme Bassmasters member Troy Terry landed third place today with five fish weighing 14.30 lbs.  Troy fished the main lake area a swim jig and a minus one crankbait.  Troy only had one keeper in the boat when his partner Eddie Wolfe from the Forsyth club helped him out with a crankbait that had been working for him that morning.  Once the switch was made, the other four keepers were in the boat.  Troy pocketed $100 for his third place finish and $100 for second big bass of the day.

The sun came out for day four of the Tournament Series and the weather was absolutely great for July.  Although the bite had changed a little, a few of the guys still managed to bring in nice sacks.

Don Heiser returned to first place on Sunday with another five fish limit weighing 14.30lbs.  And as he did Saturday, he had big bass on Sunday with 4.60lbs.  Don did much of the same thing as he had the day before fishing that 10” worm in the pole timber.  He banked $320 for first and $160 for big bass.  Great job Don.

Just ounces away in second was Jr Brown of the Pomme Bassmasters.  Jr boxed five fish going 14.70 lbs and second big bass of the day with a nice 4.40 lb beauty.   Jr reported fishing homemade jigs, a buzzbait and a tube to get the job done.  He focused his efforts in Son’s Creek fishing ledges and said it took until about 12:30 to get the fifth one in the boat.  Jr would like to thank his wife for allowing him to fish as often as he does with very little complaining.  He really appreciates her support.  Brown took home $160 for second place and $100 for second big bass.

Representing the Forsyth bass club was Joe Gerth with a limit of five fish going 12.60lbs.  Joe started out his day fishing topwater shallow to get a few bites and then moved out a little deeper with a Carolina rig and jigs to finish out his day.  Joe mentioned how well his partner Brennan Halbersma from the Christian County bass club fished today.  He said Brennan is moving along very well at such a young age and enjoyed fishing with him.  Joe would like to that The Tackle Shop in Forsyth for their continued support.  Joe took home $100 for third place and $60 for third big bass of the day.

Greg Cooper, Don Heiser, Joe Gerth and David Sommerkamp are four of the anglers representing Missouri at the 2010 TBF Central Division Championship.  The remaining eight team members will be filled from the 2009 Missouri State Championship at Table Rock Lake in October.  Congratulations!
